Our team Essential Rentals in Maldon UK is often asked these questions by our customers:
- What TV should I buy?
- What TV size should I buy?
- What is a good TV size for my home?
So, we decided to write this post in order to help you with some basic guidelines on what you need to look after when choosing a TV for your home.
How to Choose the Best Size for your TV
When choosing a new TV for your home, one of the first things you’ll need to decide on is size. Too small and you will be squinting at your favorite tv shows, and if the TV is too big it will dominate the room and you will not be sat far enough away to take it all in and enjoy. It can be very tempting to try and save money by opting for a smaller set, or to just “go big” with the biggest you can afford, but finding the optimal size for a living space can really help to improve and enhance your TV watching experience. With modern TVs offering thinner bezels, it’s surprisingly how neatly a larger screen might fit in a space, but conversely, a model that is too small for the room could look out of place and not fit very well.
The old adage that “bigger is better” seems to be more and more pertinent as years go by but sometimes with TVs, bigger isn’t better at all.
The main and most important thing to remember is that size ultimately comes down to personal preference, if you really fancy a big Smart 4k TV then nothing is likely to change your mind.
But depending on the size of your room and where you usually watch the TV from, you may actually only need a very small screen and the viewing experience will be great, reminds the team at Essential Rentals.
The common rule is that the closer you are likely to watch the screen from the smaller the screen can be. You have a limited field of vision so you can only see so much. If you’re going to be sitting a meter away from the screen most of the time then there is really no need to have a screen much bigger than 30″.
However, if you will be sitting on a sofa five meters away then even a 60″ TV may prove to be too small. You also have to take into consideration the quality of the picture on your TV. Even if the screen is Full HD or even Ultra HD you will not be able to take full advantage of the picture if you are sitting too close.
If you want a bit more specific guidance (especially with larger screens) try the following guide for the best screen size for your viewing distance:
|Screen Size||Ideal Viewing Distance|
|17 – 26 Inches||1.2 – 1.8m|
|27 – 38 Inches||2.1 – 2.7m|
|39 – 46 Inches||3 – 3.4m|
|47 – 55 Inches||3.7 – 4m|
|60 – 80 Inches||4.2 – 5.2m|
|80 Inches Or More||At least 5.2m|
Although there’s nothing stopping you having a huge 100″ TV screen a meter away from your sofa, the proximity will cause all sorts of problems for you. You may be able to see pixelation and might not be able to see enough of the screen without shifting your head, so big certainly isn’t always better as we reminded previously. To use the old comeback, it’s not the size that matters, it’s what you do with it.
